The Association welcomes the news that positive talks have taken place between the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration and solicitors’ representatives on Monday, 27th July 2026.
The changes to the criminal legal aid scheme in Ireland, proposed and implemented earlier this month, have caused significant concerns for solicitors and barristers alike. It is hoped that negotiations can now bring about reform that is beneficial to those seeking access to justice, while respecting the significant and valuable work carried out by barristers and solicitors in the District Court on a daily basis.
The Association is supportive of a process that engages meaningfully with the concerns of practitioners to seek a positive outcome in the coming days.
